What are Common interface products and how do they work?

The Pandrol Common Interface system is a non-ballasted track baseplate system that gives you a single connection point for a range of direct and indirect fastening assemblies. A standard kit of threaded dowels and a construction plate is moulded into the concrete surface when the sleeper or slab is pre-cast. These parts stay in place permanently, forming the common connection between the pre-cast concrete and whichever fastening assembly you choose.

One base accommodates three fastening systems: FCA, DFC and Vanguard, allowing you to swap the Common Interface fastening system without replacing the whole track. This is particularly useful as cities grow and transport networks expand requiring different noise and vibration mitigation requirements.

Overview

The DFC Common Interface offers all the advantages of a double resilience Fastclip baseplate system in terms of safety, reliability and durability. It shares the same common base as Fastclip FCA and Vanguard, so it's fully interchangeable within the range without changing the substrate. It's an indirect rail holding system with two separate pads for high sound, vibration and electrical insulation, plus a clip park position for rapid clipping and unclipping. Static stiffness exceeds 16 MN/m, with a low-stiffness option of 16-25 MN/m for applications where ground-borne vibration needs to stay low.

Overview

The Fastclip FCA rail fastening with the Common Interface can be delivered to site fully pre-assembled and captive on the pre-cast concrete element, reducing installation time and cost. It suits all forms of pre-cast construction, including mono block, independent block and slab panel, whether cast-in or resiliently mounted. Static stiffness exceeds 40 kN/mm depending on CEN track category, with total gauge adjustment of 20 mm and vertical adjustment of +30 mm available through custom components.

Vanguard Common Interface shares the same common base as Fastclip FCA and DFC, so it's fully interchangeable within the range without changing the substrate. Its indirect rail holding mechanism sits separate from the concrete, and a very low stiffness assembly of 5 MN/m delivers high levels of vibration isolation. Vertical corrections of up to 25 mm can be made in 1 mm intervals, with 10 mm total gauge adjustment, using minimal special tools.
